Richard Cerny (85 yo) of Seven Hills, Ohio passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026 surrounded by his loving wife Maureen (nee Samp) and daughters Cathleen (Katie) Cerny-Suelzer (husband Christian Suelzer) and Mary Cerny (husband Andrew Karla). Richard was also "Papa" to two adoring grandchildren, Spencer and Zoe Suelzer. He was a loyal brother to John (deceased) and Frank Cerny. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews. Despite his natural introversion, he was a friend to many and charming in his own endearing, grumpy way.
Rich was born in Cleveland, OH in 1940 to Frank and Anna Cerny. He got his bachelor's degree from the Fenn School of Engineering and then worked for the Ford Motor Walton Hills Stamping plant for 30 years.
Rich was many things and enjoyed many things. He was a devoted son who took care of his family, including his parents, throughout their lives. He was an avid reader and finished hundreds of books during his retirement. He knew about "Game of Thrones" long before anyone else was excited by it. He was an early adapter of home computers and technologically savvy most of his life. Rich was well travelled. He was a Mr. Fix-It, and he built many things including a much-cherished dollhouse for his daughters. Rich liked doing jigsaw puzzles. He liked to complain about Trump. He liked to smoke and drink burgundy wine, the kind that comes in a big jug. Rich was a perfectionist. He was organized and rational. He was incredibly smart. Rich had a dry, sarcastic sense of humor and was also a little bit mischievous. Perhaps most of all, he enjoyed giving his wife and daughters a hard time. He would absolutely hate any fuss being made about him.
He will be missed beyond words.
