Age 94
Marie A. Vallo died peacefully on February 1, 2025 at Danbury Senior Living in Broadview Heights, Ohio - three weeks shy of her 95th birthday. She was born on February 21, 1930 to Steve and Sophie Maskulka in Fairchance, PA, in Pennsylvania coal country. She was, indeed, a coal miner’s daughter.
In her preteen years, Marie moved, along with her parents, her brother Ed and her sister Dorothy, to Cleveland, OH. She graduated from John Hay High School. For a few years after high school she worked in the secretarial pool of Elwell Parker Electric Co., until she met - and married - Richard Vallo
Marie met Richard at a church dance. The story goes that Richard tapped Marie on the shoulder for a dance, thinking she was another girl that he already knew. Not long after, they were married, making a home on Cleveland’s southeast side until they and their children moved to Parma, OH in 1968. The couple displayed their mastery of the polka at family weddings, church picnics and the like well into their married years.
Marie wasn’t much of a ‘joiner’ or a traveler. Her farthest trip was to Toronto, Ontario, shortly after Richard retired. She did take ceramics classes though. The evidence of her talent was displayed on tables and window sills throughout the family home - especially at Christmas.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her daughter Karen and her grandson Mikey.
She is survived by her sons Ron and Greg, her daughters-in-law Mary and Tammi, grandchildren Matt (Marlla), Katy, Ryan (Khadijah), Eric, and Adam (Ashley), and great grandchildren Adalynn, Alaya, Owen, and Ubaid Niazi Vallo.
Family will receive friends at the Mallchok Funeral Home, 5660 Ridge Road, Parma, OH on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 4 – 8 p.m.
Prayer Services at the funeral home will begin Friday, February 7, 2025 at 9 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 5891 Ridge Road, Parma OH 44129, at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
