Marcia Raley Obituary

Marcia Raley died peacefully of heart failure on July 10th, 2025 at the age of 78.  She was with her beloved husband Joseph on a Danube River cruise in Budapest, Hungary, one of forty-one countries they visited together in nearly fifty-seven years of marriage.  A few days before they flew to Europe, she celebrated her daughter Robin's 50th birthday at a party full of joy, laughter, & dancing.

Marcia lived an extraordinary life of devotion to God and her loved ones.  After her retirement, she and Joe moved to Texas to be near Robin, her husband John, and their three children: Grace (16), Jack(14), & William (5).  She woke up each day to pray and to ask her daughter: "how can I help you today?"  During COVID, Marcia took care of her grandson William, so that Robin could homeschool the older children.  Recently, she served as Grace's confirmation sponsor and has been teaching her to drive, Jack to cook, and William to read, write, & pray.

Marcia's incredible love for others extended to friends and family far and wide.  She was extraordinarily organized and dedicated to keeping in touch: she believed in the power of personal contact, making phone calls and handwriting cards, never forgetting a birthday or anniversary.  She wrote long, supportive letters to friends.  She remembered special details about everyone she knew.  Her capacity for empathy and understanding knew no bounds.

Marcia was born in 1947 to Richard & Stephany Scionka and grew up in Parma with her three siblings: Karen, Ron, & Larry.  She was 100% Polish and proud of her heritage.  She and her sister continue the tradition of baking their mom's recipes from scratch.  Marcia and Joe traveled to Poland and planned to take their grandchildren next summer.  She and Joe were even members of a Polish Club in Texas!

Even though she had heart problems, you would never know it.  She lived each day to the fullest, with vigor.  She had every intention of living many more full years.  Her husband, daughter, family, & friends are devastated by her loss.  As Marcia wrote to a friend who lost her mom recently: "her earth journey is complete".  Marcia may no longer be with us, but her spirit will endure forever, as time goes by.
