Age 90

Beloved husband of Loretta A. (nee Stefan, deceased); loving father of Thomas, Christine Gruse (Raymond, deceased), and Kathleen; dear grandfather of Benjamin and Alex; dearest grandpapa of Franklin.

Joe was a proud member of the Cleveland Hiking Club where he made many friendships and loved spending time outdoors and exploring the area’s beautiful trails.

He was also a huge dog lover, always ready with a treat and a Pat for his furry friends. Joe gave his time generously, volunteering at the local animal shelter walking the dogs and the Parma Heights food pantry, eager to help out where he could.

In the earlier days of the Cleveland Indians, you could find Joe at the games where he worked as an usher. He shared his love of the team with our mom. He loved to read, and after his retirement took many of the offered education classes at Tri C looking to expand his knowledge.

Joseph earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Youngstown State University and worked at National Castings, Midland-Ross Division. After his early retirement from National Castings, he worked as an associate editor at Penton publishing on the publication Power Transmission Design. Joe was awarded patents for railroad freight car suspension systems and for container handling systems. In addition, he has held numerous positions in local ASME chapters.

Joe served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant and carried that spirit of service with him throughout his life. He was a dedicated volunteer, a good friend, and someone who made a difference in the community. His simple nature, his friendliness, his love for animals, and his sense of humor will not be forgotten.

Family will receive friends at the Mallchok Funeral Home, 5660 Ridge Road, Parma, OH on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
