Szopo (Amy) and Steve Szopo (Amy); dear grandfather of Joshua, A.J., and Sean Ryan; devoted friend of Sr. Patrick Marie Walsh OSU; brother of Steve (infant, deceased), Helen Shimet (Bill, deceased), Esther Huffman (Wayman, deceased), Chuck Szopo (deceased), Louis Szopo (Jean) (both deceased), Jay Blasiole (Lou, deceased), Mary Phillips (Jim), Barbara Moore (Art, deceased), and Rosie “Peaches” Custer (Bruce); brother-in-law of Joan Marie Novak (Larry, deceased) and Jim Janchar (Sue); dear uncle of Dan Novak (Christi) and great uncle of Izzy Novak.
U.S. Army Veteran.
John was a long-time parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Parma. He was an avid golfer, participating in the CIGL and St. Charles Golf Leagues.
Family will receive friends at the Mallchok Funeral Home, 5660 Ridge Road, Parma, OH Tuesday, April 4, 2023 from 3 - 8 p.m.
Family and Friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 5891 Ridge Road, Parma, OH 44129 at 12 noon.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorials in John’s name to Holy Family Hospice (State Road) or St. Charles Borromeo Church.
