John P. Buydos

Age 95

Beloved husband of Anna (nee Rusin); loving father of Ann Marie, Michael (Lisa), and Patricia Torowski (Elliott); dear Dzedo of Lauren Ickes (Jim), Olivia Pangrace (Eric), Nicholas Torowski, and Rachel Torowski-Newbould (Steven); Great-Dzedo of Beckham, Vandy, Atticus, Louis, Samuel, and Eric.

John was very proud of his Slovak heritage.  He was born in the village of Chotca Slovakia, and was one of only three people from his village who graduated from high school.  He was selected to go to a trade school in Varnsdorf in the Czech Republic where he was first exposed to machinery, which sparked an interest in technology that would stay with him when he emigrated to the United States in 1949.  He often spoke of the challenge of learning a trade and the English language at the same time.  With his love of math and machinery, John became a Tool and Die maker. 

Anna was also born in Slovakia.  She and John met at a dance and married in 1955.  They worked side by side for almost 70 years to build a good life for themselves and their children.  “Always do your best” and “try to get along with everyone” were two of John’s mottos.  Hands down, his favorite activity was talking with others - especially over a beer or ginger ale.  If you were also eating something with onions and garlic – even better.

John was an active member of most of the Slovak organizations in Cleveland and was Treasurer of the Slovak Dramatic Club for over 40 years.  He happily worked with his wife and friends to share his Slovak heritage with others through the Dramatic Club’s annual Slovak Festivals.

Family will receive friends at the Mallchok Funeral Home, 5660 Ridge Road, Parma, OH Monday, March 31, 2025 from 3 - 7 p.m. Parastas Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Divine Liturgy will be held at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cathedral, 5500 W. 54th Street, Parma, OH 44129 on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at 1 p.m. (Please meet at the Cathedral)

Interment will follow at Holy Spirit Cemetery.
