Betty Fesnak Scherry (nee Popovich), 101, passed away April 19, 2026. Beloved wife of 41 years to the late Gilbert G. Scherry; loving mother of Jane Archacki (Joseph) and Brent Fesnak (Marilyn); dear grandmother of Christian Secrist (Beth), Laura Waliczek (Greg), Amanda Lavriha (Greg), Erin Fesnak, and Aaron Archacki (Diane). She was G.G.Ma to Ava, Will, Corinne, Marcus, Jake, Charlie, Lille, Evelyn, and Seth.
Betty and her twin brother, John, were born in Brownsville, PA on August 24, 1924. Her parents, Mary and Vasil Popovich, moved their 10 children to Cleveland in 1929. After graduating from West Technical High School, Betty worked for the Federal Reserve Bank. She met her first husband, Walter Fesnak, when they were both 16. They corresponded while Walter served in the Army during WWII and married in 1946. While raising her children, Betty became more involved in helping her father at his meat market on Cleveland’s west side and bought the store from him after he retired. Her father often praised her butchering skills.
After Walter passed, Betty met the love of her life, Gil Scherry, through mutual friends and they married in 1983. Betty and Gil resided in Parma. They shared a deep love and mutual respect. They spent many happy years together boating, traveling, and entertaining family and friends. Betty was always up for a good party. Betty retired from Eaton Corporation where she worked for over 20 years.
Betty was a long-standing member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church and sang in the choir until a few years ago. Underlying everything Betty did in her life was her deep devotion to her faith. She carried her love of God into her daily life through prayer and the way she treated others. She will be greatly missed.
